Albion in the Community's Literacy courses have been a great success, and the club has been leading the field nationally in Skills For Life (Literacy and Numeracy) learning delivered at football clubs, part of the government's Heading For Success programme.

Encouraged by our accessible and informal sports environment, learners are inspired to return to study, in a venue which is quite unlike "going to school". Courses at the Albion are offered in partnership with local FE Colleges and they are delivered by caring, qualified tutors in the relaxed atmosphere of the football club

Literacy courses are taught in small groups, with tutor supervision, guidance and assessment throughout from our friendly and experienced staff. Sessions are held during the day and regular attendance is required.

Literacy Level 1 And Level 2

Brush up on your English, and boost your skills and confidence with spelling, grammar and comprehension. We will help you to feel more confident with reading and writing in a clear and simple way, based on real life activities and situations, and using lively selection of materials from newspapers and magazines.

The two courses follow a similar style, with the Level 2 course being a natural progression from Level 1. Both lead to nationally recognised qualifications in Literacy, Level 1 or Level 2 (equivalent level to GCSE). Our tutor will individually assess and advise learners on which course is most suitable for their needs. For learners whom English is a second language we can offer ESOL courses if appropriate.
